Taylor Jones, Ph.D.

Dr. Taylor Jones has been a principal consultant with CulturePoint LLC for eight years. He is an experienced and talented facilitator, and works primarily with military clients, having consulted with many Navy Commands as well as with the Army and several National Guard detachments. Recent Navy clients include NAVAIR, NAVSEA, SPAWAR, OJAG, and the Navy-Marine Corps Trial Judiciary. While effective across the range of D&I training courses, Dr. Jones specializes in working with barrier removal teams, and statistical analysis supporting barrier identification and removal in organizations.
Dr. Jones is an expert on the intersection of race, language, and bias, and has done research on cross-dialect comprehension and conflict, and on how speakers and listeners think strategically about speech acts. His research has been published in Language, and American Speech, and has been featured in the New York Times, the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Economist, and Slate, as well as on NPR, CBC, CBS, and Vice News Tonight.
Dr. Jones’s doctoral research was on regional variation in African American English, but he also has published work on Mandarin, Persian, and Zulu. He received is doctorate in linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania in 2020. He has lectured at the Naval Postgraduate School, University of Pennsylvania, Stanford, New York University, University of Massachusetts Amherst, the University of Texas, and others.
